What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Unlike other stress reduction techniques, like massage or acupuncture, it requires no touching. It is based on the understanding that at our essential core we are pure energy. If our energy is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The goal of Reiki healing is to restore energetic balance for well-being and health of mind, body, and spirit. These concepts are similar to other forms of Eastern-based medicine and mind/body practices including mediation, yoga, tai chi, and acupuncture.
What does a Reiki Practitioner do?
My role as a Reiki Practitioner and Coach is to help you connect with your inner wisdom, listen for guidance, and begin to heal, and embrace and fulfill your dreams. Whether you have physical or mental health concerns, or if you would like to change your diet, relationships,or career, you feel stuck or are in transition, we will work together to create a space for you to heal, resolve issues, and flow freely through life. Through thoughtful inquiry and the Reiki and coaching processes, your thoughts and beliefs will transform, and you will begin to heal and create the life you’ve always wanted.
At its most basic, Reiki is a deeply relaxing therapy. Many Reiki recipients however have reported miraculous healings of acute and chronic mental, emotional and physical ailments. These include but are not limited to: depression, heartbreak, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, grief, PMS, fibromyalgia, cystitis, migraines, allergies, joint and muscle pain, diabetes, constipation, addiction recovery, insomnia, colds and flus, asthma, heart conditions, and even cancer. What does Reiki feel like?
As an energy-healing therapy, a Reiki treatment feels different for everyone. For some it brings about a state of deep relaxation. Sensations can range from soothing, cool tinglings to gentle, warm waves – though each person’s experience is unique and can vary at every session. Sometimes Reiki recipients may even see colors or get insights during or just after a treatment.
What is a typical Reiki session like?
For a typical Reiki session, I will go to your house and set up a massage table, light a Reiki candle, and create a space for the treatment. You can also lay on your bed or a sofa if you prefer.
A usual session is one hour and consists of 15-30 minutes of consultation and 30-45 minutes of Reiki. During the consultation we will go over goals for your appointment, areas of pain or discomfort, medical history (if desired), and lifestyle. Remember, this is your session. We can work on whatever you’d like!
After our discussion you will lay down on the massage table (dressed in comfortable clothing and covered with a blanket for you, if you’d like), I will play some relaxing music, and I will begin the Reiki session. Typically, the person receiving Reiki is quiet during this time, but feel free to ask questions or talk to me.
During the Reiki session I will place my hands above your body, and sometimes gently on your body, and I will begin the Reiki energy flow. My intention is to create a state of deep relaxation and peace to help speed the physical and mental healing process, balance emotions, and restore the energetic body system. I will usually begin at your head and work my way down to your feet. You may feel, warmth, coolness, or tingly vibrations as the energy envelops you. You may not feel anything you can define, but that doesn’t mean the Reiki isn’t flowing. Most people fall into a deep state of relaxation, or you may fall asleep. Some people even see colors, have visions, or feel lighter after a session.
I will tell you when the session is over, and ask you to remain lying down for a few moments while you get acclimated to the new environment. Then, I’ll have you sit up and take a few deep breaths before standing. Then, we’ll have a brief discussion on how you feel and what you’d like to see happen until our next meeting.
How will I feel after a Reiki treatment?
Because Reiki treatment
is balancing, it can help anyone. It is most common that people feel
relaxed after Reiki. If you were experiencing depression before, you may
have a sense of comfort, or release. If you were feeling anxious you
may feel calm or more at ease. If you came in with a question, you may
leave with an answer, or with a renewed sense of what path to take. You
may also feel inspired. Everyone is unique. You also may not feel
anything initially, but healing has occurred. You may notice it a few
days later when your symptoms are less intense, or you’re more relaxed.

How many Reiki treatments are needed to see results?
This depends completely on the reason for receiving Reiki and your response to the energy healing. A single session can have deeply relaxing and beneficial results.
If you want to experience deeper and longer lasting benefits or use Reiki to help with chronic or more serious conditions, it is recommended to start with a set of four treatments within a short period of time (every day or every week). This helps the body’s energy centers open on deeper levels to enable healing to occur more effectively.
After the initial four sessions, treatments can occur on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or even bi-monthly basis, depending on your response to the Reiki treatments. Of course, it’s always up to you to determine how often you get sessions.
Tips for a great Reiki experience
To get the most out of your Reiki energy healing session I gently recommend:
• Reflect on one main area of your life where you would like to see a positive change, one that would have the most impact for you, and see if we can use that as a theme to guide your session
• Try to minimize stimulants (caffeine, nicotine) or depressants (alcohol) and heavy or junk foods about three to five hours before and after your treatment
• After your session, spend time in nature and walk around, really feeling your feet on the earth (this will help integrate the healing energies and get you grounded)
• Drink plenty of water to continue releasing and healing
• Eat something delicious and nutritious after the treatment to further ground yourself
• Give yourself time to reflect, journal, meditate, take a soothing shower or bath and relax into your evening
• Enjoy the aftereffects of the session and follow your guidance as to when you need another one
